Besides the beaches, San Diego is home to some of the country’s greatest outdoor spaces, most notably the 1,200-acre Balboa Park, a historic landmark home to the San Diego Zoo as well as a number of museums, gardens, restaurants and the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. The space is a breathtaking one, featuring open space areas, natural vegetation zones, gardens, and walking paths. The park's site is one of the oldest in the United States dedicated to public recreational use.

Centre City, as it’s also known, is the cultural, financial center and central business district, and is served by the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System, the San Diego Trolley. There is also a commuter train linking downtown with northern San Diego County, called the Coaster, which also stops at communities along the San Diego County coastline.
