Moving out of an apartment can seem like a daunting task. On top of your own packing, it\u2019s also important to make sure that your home is in good condition ahead of your departure. As you begin planning your move from your apartment, we recommend revisiting your lease to review any move-out protocols, checklists, inspections and other requirements from your landlord.<\/span><\/p>\n

Staying organized can make the moving process easier, so we created a checklist to help as you prepare for your final inspection and move to a new home. It includes reminders about transferring utilities, forwarding your mail, how to do a thorough apartment cleaning and more.*<\/span><\/p>\n

Request an Initial Inspection<\/b><\/h3>\n

When moving out you may be able to request a \u201cpre-inspection,\u201d where the landlord, manager or maintenance associate walks through your apartment before your final inspection to help identify conditions that may be deductible from your security deposit. By requesting a pre-inspection you may have a chance to fix or remedy issues within the home before the final inspection, so we recommend scheduling this as early as you can (ideally several weeks before your move).<\/span><\/p>\n

Balances Due<\/b><\/h3>\n

If you have an online leasing portal, check to ensure you don\u2019t have any outstanding balances. If you are an Irvine Company resident, you can use the <\/span>All at Home app<\/span><\/a> to pay any final rent or other balances owed. If your apartment doesn\u2019t have online payments, check with your landlord or community manager to ensure there are no surprises when you move out.<\/span><\/p>\n

Making Fixes<\/b><\/h3>\n

If you\u2019ve broken something in your apartment, check with your landlord as to how to fix it. For example, if there is a hole in the wall, your landlord may not want you to patch it yourself, they may prefer to have it professionally fixed. We recommend asking before making any major fixes or repairs.<\/span><\/p>\n
